Today’s outreach project at the Laser Quest in Woodbridge, VA was a great success!  I was truly overjoyed to play a role in the blessing of so many families at one time, at one location.  My heart melted with every instance of each new family that entered the doors to enjoy an evening of fun and excitement, when the realization hit that everything, for this night, was on the house.  To hear the conversations of the people expressing their elation of this blessing, was overwhelming.
The little children in their innocence were happy to receive the pizza, as the nervousness shown on their faces, being served by the strangers wearing black shirts that read “God is at Work Making a Difference”.  I counted it all shear joy to play my small part in such a significant event in Zion Church Woodbridge history.  Pastor Brian Edmonds and his team of volunteers showed up and showed out and God’s love and kindness was shared with the city of Woodbridge in a majoy way!
May God continue to bless and keep Zion Church Woodbridge.

The Makeup Show this year was a blast!  From the crazy-zany to the celeb MUA… Either way you slice it, it was phenom.  On more than one occasion, I had to take a second look.  A man in drag dressed in a diamond suit, a woman made up to look like a mummy, human posters, painted on clothing…  On one hand, some of the makeup could make you laugh and on the other hand make you cry… it depended on your mood, but for me it was awesome!  If I could have stayed another day, I would have, but my “good-ole’-gubment job” pays the bills.

The show stopper this year was Inglot Cosmetics. http://inglotcosmetics.com/  The vibrant colors and the beautiful packaging made for a wonderful change from the hum-drum makeup from year-to-year.  They introduced a build-a-palette concept called the “Freedom System“.  You had the option of  building your own eye, face, concealer or lip palette and they would create it right there before your eyes.  Much thought was put into this brilliant line of cosmetics!!!

Another show stopping newbie was the Mattese Elite cosmetic line. http://matteseelite.com/ Not only did they have a beautiful display of popping colors and exquisite packaging, they had two scantily clad young chaps showing chest, chest… and more chest!  If the display didn’t draw you in… the male models did!  I purchased shadows for my eyes, gloss for my lips… need I say more.
Dex New York http://www.dexnewyork.com/  with their Pro Palettes and ongoing makeup applications were a hit as well.  I had to grab one of these babies… a Pro Palette large enough to house every last one of my eyeshadows… 150 eye shadows to be exact!  Crazy and two thumbs up for Dex New York.  You guys were thinking of me when you put this palette together.  No more individual palettes for me!  Just 1 super palette… priceless.
If you have some free time on your hands, check out some of these babies… you will thank me!

Tattoo Cover, more than just some foundation…

According to Wikopedia, a tattoo is a marking made by inserting indelible ink into the layers of skin to change the pigment for decorative or other reasons. The term “tattoo” was first referenced in 1769.  So tattooing has been around for centuries.

Most, but not all tattoos have a green base.  Whatever color most prevalent in the tattoo will need to be neutralized before adding any form of camouflage foundation cover to match the skin color of the client, as color bleeding may occur.  Not only tattoos, but port wine birthmarks, stretch marks and scars can also be covered as well using the technique below.

To begin, select the color foundation that matches the client’s skin.  Select a foundation 1 shade lighter and 1 shade darker than the foundation that is a perfect match for their skin color.  Analyze the tattoo, its location, dimension, color and thickness to determine what colors need neutralizing.  Cancel out the color by using the opposite color on the color wheel Purple/Yellow, Blue/Orange, and Green/Red.

Products: Skin Cleanser, Mattifier, Neutralizing Cream, Camouflage Foundation, Powder, and Sealant

Here are the steps:

  •  Cleanse the area
  • Apply mattifier
  • Neutralize the present colors
  • Conceal the tattoo with a darker foundation
  • Repeat with light foundation
  • Airbrush the entire area (optional)
  • Powder
  • Spray Sealant

Problems Encountered:  New tattoos on fair skin (colors can bleed through – cover layer re-cover layer may be necessary), hairy skin (when lots of coarse hair is present, the hairs can lift the foundation so start out light and build the coverage slowly checking hair as you go), raised tattoos (there is nothing you can do for raised skin).

NOTE:  Too many layers can start to crack, so take your time…

On the Bus

Although the arrival time to the bus was changed from 5pm to 4pm, and the stop on the way to pick up some Baltimoreans… was unexpected, the trip was a success.  From the scenery to the activities… we had a blast!!!  We watched the movie Ninja.  Shall I say… a bloody mess?  It was a Chinese version of Kill Bill!  How much blood can a person take…?  But I couldn’t stop watching, as legs were chopped off, heads severed, bodies split in half — as if it were the tomato from the Gensu knife commercial — I was glued.   Should I say I want to see the sequel?

 Pajama Party Madness

... and more drinks

The nice-little-cute-little blue and white oversized T-Shirt I bought to wear with my comfy fluffy blue slippers to win the pajama contest, was left home.  I didn’t even pack it!  What a waste… I couldn’t believe it (I had winner written all over my forehead.)  I was so blown!  Everyone had on their cute little PJs and there I was in my leggings and sweater that I wore on the bus the entire ride while watching bloody movie.  What a bummer!!!!!!

Outlet Shopping – Deal or No Deal?

Since the pajama party ended at 3am, or should I say, I left at 3am… and mind you, I am 42 years old.  There was no way I was going to make breakfast by 8:30am and the bus to the sporting activities scheduled for 9am.

To my surprise (sneaky-sneaky…wink-wink) the bus to the Outlet Mall left at 10:30am.   Right up my alley!  We had 2 hours to shop, so to Banana Republic Outlet we went…  Two full bags of clothing for $150… I say Deal!  With a deal like that, if I hadn’t done anything after that 2 hour shopping craze, I would have been fine-fine-fine.  Shall I say it again… I say Deal!

The Show… Did I say Teena!

There were two Comedians, in which the names I did not get, but the second Comedian’s mouth was so filthy, it was funny just watching my cousin’s face cringe in anger.  She is much older than me and lives the straight and narrow, so that in an of itself was funny as hell!!!  Not only were the Comedians hilarious, but they were entertaining.  I hadn’t seen a live comedy show in a minute, so guess what… I will be doing so real soon.

Comedian #2

Carl Thomas was pretty cool, but for me, when you don’t have your own band with you, I just can’t get in the groove.  Don’t know why, but to me, it just ain’t right

But when the band started setting up for Teena Marie, my hands started to sweat and my heart started to beat just a tad bit faster…Whoa!!!  My girl Teena was on point!  Her voice was so sweet and soothing, and she hit all the songs I love, so to me, it seemed as if she was singing to me.  Me and Teena… that was all she wrote!  I was in hog-heaven reminiscing on some of her old cuts like… Dear Lover, Out on a Limb, Lover Girl… need I say more.  She was more than hot… she was on fire!  Well worth the trip and well worth my time.  Gotta do that one mo’ gin!!!

On another note, you guys know I’m learning to use my camera and taking pix of my girl Teena (with sweaty, shaking hands) was more than a chore, but I hope you love them just as much as I do.

Adventures in Tubing

I didn’t realize my snow boots had a smooth sole (who ever heard of snow boots without grips on the bottom) until I had to climb to the top of the hill to ride down the slide.  My legs will pay the price by tomorrow, but it was well worth it!  I’d never been tubing on such a steep slope before, so the combination of fright, adrenaline and cold air gave me a rush that is indescribable.  We had a blast!

But to be honest, after about 2 trips up that hill, I had to give in and get on the lift.  You’ve heard the saying ”when in doubt… throw it out”  well I thought… “when in pain, use your brain” and to the lift I went.  Enjoy the photos… I did!

The End

DC Fashion Week’s launch party was a great start to an awesome week of Fashion, Beauty and Style.  It was awesome being in attendance as opposed to working behind the scenes… what a blast!  Should I say, the “Red Carpet” treatment… we were greated at the door with photographers galore.  The paparazzi was everywhere!  Flashing lights, beautiful people and smiles on top of larger smiles.  The evening was one to remember!

The venue…

The Textile Museum, in 1925 was founded by George Hewitt Myers.  Its collection of rugs, textiles and the like were collected from all over the world.  Originally visited by appointment only, the museum is now open to the public and is reknowned as one of the world’s foremost specialized art museums.  It receives 25,000 to 35,000 visitors each year from around the world.  The selection of this venue was one of great style and grace.  The clothing on display was suspended in mid-air and were as colorful as the rainbow.  Strategically placed for all eyes to see.  Excellent to say the least.  Please visit the Textile Museum as its interior and breathtaking!

The Fashion…

From select designers all over the globe, eco-friendly fabrics that were trendy and yet so wearable.  Fabrics hand died and sewn with care from designers conscious of not only our environment, but these designers have gone above and beyond to protect our wildlife as well.  Words could not explain the excitement of the show and its fashions.  Simply marvelous!

More Events…

Check your calendars and also the DCFashionWeek.org website for this week’s up and coming shows.  You don’t want miss out on such beauty and taste.

Who would ever think that a movie could change someone’s life so profoundly, they’d become refreshed and alive. Well, that was me… I watched a movie called “Yes Man” with Jim Carey a couple of months ago. It is a comedy about a less than normal man that had a less than normal existence, turned his life around after attending a seminar called “Yes”.

Long story short, I gave it a try and guess what… I’ve been attending functions (not every one of them), but a pretty good number of them and somehow a spark has been lit under my feet. I’ve been not only meeting new people, but networking and having the time of my life doing it.

If you find yourself sitting around doing nothing one day… watch the movie “Yes Man” and give what he did a try… larger things may happen!

Get started, stay motivated and become alive again… it feels so good.

Saying yes,
Teresa "A night on the town with Andri!"
